Reclamations
- Recovery of the african cultural retentions within the African Diaspora
- Retrieval of our rich heritage
- Repossession of the African pride and industrial spirit eminent in the pre colonial era
- Recuperation of our African identity as kings, queens, and chiefs of a prosperous continent
- Renovation of our ancestral values to the lasting benefit of our people
De CORE TT will enter Carnival 2014 as a small band. The theme is African. The band will comprise of 8 sections, 6 characters, 6 section leaders, 2 kings, and 2 queens with designs done by a collective team from De CORE London and De CORE TT.
The portrayal is a spectacle highlighting the West African kingdoms in their glory and splendour.
The concept is couched within the context of a Durbar. The band therefore will represent a parade of the various peoples, tribes, houses, chieftaincies, kingdoms called by King Carnivale for the annual gathering.
It is a ceremonial parade of chiefs, kings, and their entourage. The band is in essence an exhibition of the creativity and produce of our camp.
It will engage masqueraders in choreography and performance in order to re-address the erosion of the masquerade in preference to ‘masplaying.’ Although the two are interchangeable it is more profound when the masquerader plays the mas. This is the key to the presentation.
Through Reclamation, De CORE hope to connect the ancestral and spiritual synergies between Freetown Belmont and the African continent in a spectacle that will inspire, educate and edify.
“In Reclamations masqueraders came with De CORE portraying the wealth of their creative achievements singing and dancing and revering their kings, queens and chiefs. The spectacle like a durbar made its way to the King’s Palace (the savannah) stopping at the chiefs’ yards (Independence Square, Ariapita Avenue, Piccadilly, etc) along the way.”
